Nurture and Balance November 2025

Hello You,

As we move deeper into the darker months, I wanted to send an insight into this time from an acupuncture energy perspective.

Moving from Metal to Water: A Gentle Guide for Transitioning into Winter

From Metal to Water: Finding Steadiness and Comfort as We Enter Winter

Autumn energy is transitioning into Winter energy as we move over the midpoint between the autumn equinox and the winter solstice. We transition from the reflective energy of Metal into the deep, resilient energy of Water. In Five Element acupuncture, this seasonal transition is a powerful invitation to let go, soften, and settle into a slower rhythm.

Metal helps us release – old feelings, unhelpful patterns, and the emotional debris we’ve gathered through the year.

Water gives us resilience – offering rest, endurance, and a sense of inner safety as the world becomes darker and colder.

Letting go before winter settles in

Autumn’s Metal energy encourages reflection. If this year has felt heavy or full, you might naturally feel that familiar tug toward tidying loose emotional threads. This doesn’t mean forcing positivity – it simply means gently acknowledging what you’re ready to let go of.

A few grounding prompts:

  • What am I choosing to leave behind this year?

  • What has quietly come to completion?

  • What do I no longer want to carry into winter?

  • What will continue to drain me if I don’t let it go?

Even a simple moment of recognition can create space for a breath to take in and let it go.

Water energy – building resilience, comfort, and safety

Winter belongs to the Water element. Its qualities are depth, inner strength, and the ability to endure difficult times with quiet resilience. But Water can also stir feelings of fear, uncertainty, or internal wobbliness – especially as we approach the winter.

This is why cultivating comfort, safety, and self-care through winter is so important.

Gentle ways to support your Water energy:

  • Wrap yourself in cosy textures and warm soft layers

  • Keep your feet, lower back, and ankles warm to protect Kidney energy

  • Use soft lighting, candles, and restful spaces

  • Take slow evening baths or showers or snuggle up on the sofa

  • Spend time with people who help you feel safe and soothed

  • Practise conscious breathing when you notice unease rising

  • Limit knowing the news and overstimulating media

  • Choose TV, books, and activities that make you feel relaxed and happy

  • Head out for daily walks in nature in the daylight- so important.

These small daily rituals create a powerful sense of emotional rootedness.

Winter as a time of inner replenishment

Winter invites us to nourish our internal reserves – emotionally, spiritually, and physically. It’s a season for gentle introspection and deep rest, not pressure or rushing.

As we head towards the festive season, keep this in mind. It’s so easy to burn the candle at both ends with socialising, shopping, and ‘doing’ instead of accessing the simpler and slower cosy joys which are so nourishing at this time of year.

You’re allowed to slow down.
You’re allowed to seek comfort.
You’re allowed to want safety and cosiness.

Find the right balance for you.

Enjoy the transition and be very kind to yourself.

With love

Danielle
